Senior A Football Championship (1982-2025)

Player of the Match

Womens Senior Football Championship final Player of the Match award was introduced in 1988 and was presented in 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991 before being discontinued until 2005. The 1989 award was sponsored by Brendan Collum, the 1990 award was sponsored by Paddy Tighe and the 1991 award was sponsored by the Womens Board. The presentation of POTM award was revived in 2005 and has been presented each year since. In 2024 a new POTM award was introduced, sponsored by that years SFC final referee Joe McDermott, in memory of his sister Theresa McDermott Quinn.

Two sets of sisters won the POTM award over the years… For Longford Slashers, the Shannon sisters Grace (2024) and Kate (2020) each won it once, and for Killoe the Brady sisters Elizabeth (2010 & 2012) and Jacinta (2015 & 2016) each won it twice. All others won it once. A player from the losing side won the Player of the Match award on two occasions (Mary Kiernan for Ballymore in 2011 and Jacinta Brady for Killoe in 2015). Dessie and Jessica Barry from Longford Slashers have the distinction of being the only Father-Daughter combination to win POTM award in the respective Men’s and Women’s SFC finals down the years. Evelyn Bannon won the POTM in two successive years (1988 & 1989) but for two different clubs – In 1988 for St. Annes and in 1989 for Clonguish.
