Leinster Junior Hurling Shield (2005-2011)

Leinster Junior Shield

The Leinster Junior Hurling Shield was a stand-alone hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council from 2005 to 2011 for a combination of lower tier hurling counties and other second string teams. Even though it was a Junior Hurling competition, Longford’s first team competed throughout, winning the title twice (2005 and 2006) and reaching the final three times (2005, 2006 & 2007). Longford played Louth, Warwickshire, Leitrim, Cavan, South Down (Down ‘B’) and Westmeath ‘B’ in the competition. It was discontinued in 2011 after that years competition saw Longford unable to field against Louth and Louth showing up to the final with just 10 players leading to the the title being awarded to Westmeath.
