Leinster Club SHC

4 Longford clubs played a total of 30 games against 19 different opposition clubs in the Leinster Club Senior Hurling Championship from 1982 to 2005. While Leinster Club SHC competition began in 1970, Longford clubs did not compete until 1982 when adult hurling was revived in the county for the first time since the 1930’s. Longford’s SHC winner competed in Leinster Club SHC until 2005, with the County Final runner-up competing in Leinster Club JHC from 2001. Since 2006 the Longford champions compete in Leinster Club Junior Hurling Championship.

Of the 30 games played in Leinster Club SHC, Longford clubs Won 4 (13%), Lost 24 (80%) and Drew 2 (7%).

Longford’s most frequent opponents have come from Louth (11 times) and Kildare (8 times) over the years. The most frequent opposition club played over the years was Naomh Moninne from Louth (P6, W2, L4). A Longford club has never played a club from Offaly, Laois, Kilkenny or Wexford in the competition.

No LD club participation in Leinster Club SHC after 2005!

– Longford Slashers played as Slashers Gaels prior to 2000’s.
– Wolfe Tones is the hurling section of Mostrim GAA Club.
– Naomh Ciarán was the hurling section of Rathcline GAA Club.

1990 Clarification: In 1990 the Longford SHC had not completed by the time the Leinster Club SHC got underway. Wolfe Tones had a bye into the Longford final and were therefore nominated to represent Longford in the Leinster Club SHC that year. The Longford County Final took place shortly thereafter with Longford Slashers winning the title. 

1999 Clarification: In the 1999 first round clash with Kilmessan, the Longford champions Wolfe Tones indicated that they would not be able to compete, and Slashers Gaels were asked to represent Longford instead. The short notice resulted in Slashers struggling to make up the numbers on the day, hence the game was conceded.
