Liam Mulvihill from the Kenagh club was 33 when elected Árd Stiúrthóir CLG in 1979 having previously been the youngest ever County Board Chairman in 1971 at the age of 25. A primary school principal and school inspector by trade, Liam won an All-Ireland Colleges medal with St. Mels College in 1963 and played football for Longford at all grades. He was part of the Kenagh ‘Question Time’ team to reach the All-Ireland final of Scór in 1970. He was a member of Kenagh’s first U-21 Championship winning team and Kenagh’s first IFC winning team. His role as Árd Stiúrthóir CLG during the redevelopment of Croke Park is regarded as transformative and the positive change experienced by the GAA during his years at Croke Park is a reflection of his significant contribution to the association at large. Liam Mulvihill was awarded the Freedom of Longford in 2007.

Albert Fallon from the Ballymahon club was Leinster Council Chairman from 1993 to 1995 and ran for GAA President in 1999 and 2002. In 1990 he became the first Longford official to be elected to the Leinster Council Executive as Vice-Chairman and then the first to become Leinster Council Chairman in 1993. A native of Rochfortbridge, Albert moved to Ballymahon in 1972 as a teacher at Mercy Secondary School and his involvement in local GAA began with his transfer to Ballymahon GAA in 1974. He coached the Ballymahon Region team to the County MFC title in 1977 and served in a number of different roles in the club. He first became involved in administration at county level was in 1977 as Youth Officer on the Minor Board and was later elected Minor Board Chairman in 1983. He would go on to become Chairman of the Longford County Board for four years from 1987 to 1990 and returned later to serve as Treasurer in 2003 & 2004. When he stood down as Leinster Council Chairman in 1995 he returned to Ballymahon to serve as Club Chairman and oversaw the return of the club to Senior ranks. In 2006 he was appointed a Trustee of the GAA at that years annual convention. In his youth he won an All-Ireland Special Minor Hurling title with his native Westmeath and played Sigerson Cup football with UCD. In 2018 Albert Fallon was inducted into the Longford GAA ‘Hall of Fame’ as the 2017 recipient.

Brian Molloy is the first male president of the Camogie Association in its 118 year history. Brian was born in Castlepollard and raised in Lanesboro (lived briefly in Granard too) before moving to his current home in Ballinderreen. He previously served as Connacht Camogie Chairperson, Galway County Board PRO and Connacht Provincial Council PRO before becoming the 32nd President of the Camogie Association when his term began in April 2024 and will serve as President in 2024, 2025 & 2026.

1) Patrick McKenna was originally from Kiltycreevagh, Ballinamuck. As a founder member of the new Garda Síochána in 1922 he was initially deployed to Galway City where he and two other Gardai took over the then County Club at Eyre Square in September 1922. Promotion to the rank of Sergeant came in April 1925 followed by a transfer to Athea on the Kerry/Limerick border. Sergeant McKenna was later transferred to Bruff in Co. Limerick where he spent a number of years, and became a prominent GAA referee. His games cited above all occurred when he was based in Bruff, Co. Limerick. A transfer to Ennis followed in October 1946 and finally a move to Thurles in 1947 where he remained as Garda Sergeant until retirement from An Garda Síochána in 1966. As a referee he took charge of multiple Munster finals, a Connacht final and two All-Ireland SFC finals (1941 & 1943). The 1941 All-Ireland SFC final had a referee from Ballinamuck and Galway number 10 from Drumlish (Jimmy Hannify) – two men from the same parish! In 1940 Sergeant McKenna returned to his native Longford to referee the All-Ireland JFC final between Roscommon and Westmeath at Pearse Park. His last big inter-county game was the sensational victory by Clare over Kerry in the 1949 Munster SFC semi-final. He was the first Longford native to referee an All-Ireland SFC final, though not the first Longford GAA referee to do so – that accolade belongs to John Bannon in 1998. Patrick McKenna died in March 1989. A section of the North Longford notes in the Longford Leader in 1998 noted that the barn at Sergeant McKenna’s birthplace in Kiltycreeevagh was used to wake General Blake after he was executed following the Battle of Ballinamuck in 1798. (Sources: Bruff Heritige Booklet ‘The Dawn’ and various newspapers)

2) Fintan Tierney was originally from Granard. During his playing career he won a Minor League with Colmcille in 1950 and played for Mullinalaghta in the SFC final in 1952. He also played for his native Granard, featuring in the Longford JFC final in 1954 and winning a JFC medal with Granard in 1958. He also played County for Longford alongside his legendary brother Vincent. Fintan moved to Butlersbridge in Co. Cavan and became a club and inter-county referee. He was an umpire in the 1964 All-Ireland SFC Final between Kerry and Galway and referee for the 1964 All-Ireland JFC ‘Home’ Final and 1969 All-Ireland JFC Final. The pinnacle of his refereeing career came with his appointment as referee for the 1972 All-Ireland SFC final (drawn game) between Offaly and Kerry and 1972 National Football League Final. Fintan went on to become Chairman of Cavan Schools Board and was responsible for the establishment of the Féile Peile na nÓg An Cabháin which was first organised by the Cavan County Board in 1982 and went on to become the annual National Féile Peile na nÓg competition which continues to this day. He was also involved with the Cavan Ladies Football Board as an officer and later as Chairperson in 2003, and played a role in establishing Ladies Football in the Breffni county. Fintan Tierney died in January 2008.

3) Pat Casserly is originally from Newtowncashel. He made the move to Mullingar where he worked, and joined the local St. Lomans GAA club. His career as a referee began in 1987 and his inter-county career began in 1990. He received the National Irish Bank ‘Football Referee of the Year’ award in 1996. Pat was the man in the middle for some significant deciders over the years, including All-Ireland Minor Football final, All-Ireland U-21 Football final, All-Ireland Club SFC final, All-Ireland Colleges ‘B’ final, National League final, Leinster Football final and two All-Ireland Senior Football semi-finals. He stepped down as an inter-county referee in 1998 following a disagreement over the appointment of the referee for that years All-Ireland SFC final.
