Leinster Club JFC

16 Longford clubs played a total of 50 games against 45 different opposition clubs in Leinster Club Junior Football Championship since the competition began in 1996. Longford clubs reached the semi-final of the Leinster Club JFC five times: Shroid Slashers (1997), Longford Slashers (2001), Colmcille (2002) and St. Brigids Killashee (2015 & 2025).

Of the 50 games played in Leinster Club JFC, Longford clubs Won 15 (30%), Lost 30 (60%) and Drew 5 (10%).

Won 30% of Games
Lost 60% of Games
Drew 10% of Games

St. Brigids Killashee played the most games of any Longford club in Leinster Club Junior Championship (7 in total), with Shroid Slashers next on 6 games, while Colmcille and Young Grattans are next on 5 games each. In 2002 the Longford Junior ‘B’ Champions Colmcille played the Longford Junior ‘A’ Champions Shroid Slashers for the prize of representing Longford in the Leinster Club JFC. In 2005, 2007 and from 2010 to 2017 inclusive, the winner of the Longford JFC did not represent Longford in Leinster – instead a different club was nominated in each of those years. From 2011 to 2017 the Longford IFC runner-up represented Longford in the Leinster Club JFC. There was no Longford participation in 2018 due to the IFC runner-up being a group team, which are not allowed to compete in Leinster competition. From 2019 to 2024 the winner of the Longford JFC competed in Leinster. In 2025 there was no Junior club in the JFC Final, hence the IFC Runner-Up took part in Leinster Club JFC competition.

The competition began in 1996 as a Leinster Junior Club Tournament using experimental rules, and had a round-robin format from 1996 to 2004 with teams grouped by geographic region. This meant that you had to qualify from your group to progress to the semi-final stage. From 2005 the format changed to the traditional straight knockout. In 1996 & 1997 the competition was played using the following experimental rules: (a) One solo and one hop, (b) Can lift the ball off the ground and (c) No square ball rule.
