Dream Team 2020
Longford’s Dream Team 2000-2020 reflected the best Longford footballers from 2000 to 2020. Winners were announced in May 2020 after a month-long competition hosted by the Longford Leader newspaper. Three players were nominated for each position (see below right) and the public voted on the winner for each position (see below left). Ten clubs were represented in the final selection, with Fr. Manning Gaels leading the way with three players. There were two each from Dromard, Killoe and Clonguish, and one from Longford Slashers, Colmcille, Mullinalaghta, Granard, Ardagh and Abbeylara. Brian Kavanagh from the Ardagh St. Patricks club played County football for Longford but from 2008 played club football in Dublin with Kilmacud Crokes where he won 2 Dublin SFC titles, 2 Leinster Club SFC titles and an All-Ireland Club SFC title. He was also named Leinster club footballer of the year in 2010.
