This page displays Senior Football appearance & scorers for all 969 Longford games in League (583), Championship (242) and O’Byrne Cup (144) from 1903 to 2026, featuring 939 players with a combined 16,898 appearances and 12,005 scored in Senior Football competition. Our team researched and compiled individual team lists for all 969 games (starting XV and subs and scorers) and then aggregated these lists to form a master record of player appearances and scores.

Research: All player data was researched from scratch by our team using contemporaneous sources, and does not use pre-existing or third party datasets. This package of research covers 16,898 appearances by 939 separate footballers. Our team researched and compiled individual team lists (example) for all 969 games (starting XV and subs and scorers) and then aggregated these lists to form a master record of player appearances and scores. team. Worth noting that some players competed under an alias (examples found in 1925, 1926, 1957 & 1961) and those details are factored into our master database. Games played but abandoned part-way through or voided during or after the game are included in the data because they involved players lining out for Longford in a competitive game. For games decided by penalty shoot-out or free-kick competition, those scores are reflected in the relevant players total.

Gaps in Records: There are 48 player appearance gaps out of 16,898 total appearances (0.3%) from 1903 to 2026: 1903 Leinster SFC vs Wexford (17), 1927 Leinster SFC vs Wexford (11), 1936 NFL vs Wicklow (1), 1937 NFL vs Offaly (1), 1943 Leinster SFC vs Offaly (1), 1944 NFL vs Westmeath (1), 1949 NFL vs Leitrim (4), 1953 NFL vs Mayo (2), 1956 NFL vs Leitrim (4), 1965 O’Byrne Cup vs Offaly (1) and 1983 NFL vs Kilkenny (5). In terms of scores, a total of 6-18 (36) could not be allocated to individual players via published records, which is 0.3% of total scored by Longford in Senior Football competition. The remaining 99.7% of scores are accounted for and allocated to the individual players. 

Games Excluded: Four games are excluded from the list of 955 competitive Senior Football games played: (1) 1925/1926 Leinster League Inter-Group game vs Laois was conceded in protest ahead of time, hence not included (no game, no team). (2) O’Byrne Cup game vs Kilkenny in 1983 was a walkover ahead of time, hence not included (no game, no team). (3) Longford failed to field for the 2000 All-Ireland ‘B’ SFC game vs Wicklow, hence not included (no game, no team). (4) NHL game vs Cork in 2020 was conceded ahead of time due to Covid-19 related concerns, hence not included (no game, no team).
