Competition began in 1999, with Longford’s first participation in 2003. Longford LGFA clubs won the Leinster Club IFC title three times – Clonguish in 2005, Killoe in 2008 and Longford Slashers in 2022, with Longford Slashers going a step further and winning the All-Ireland Club IFC title in 2022, becoming the first Longford club in any code or grade to win an All-Ireland Club title.

Longford’s first participation in Leinster Club IFC was in 2003 when Longford IFC winners Killoe competed and reached the Leinster Final. In 2004 Carrickedmond were nominated to represent Longford in Leinster Club IFC. In 2005 the Longford SFC winners (Clonguish) competed in Leinster Club IFC and won the Leinster title. In 2006 the Longford SFC winner (Killoe) competed in Leinster Club IFC. There was no Longford participation in 2007 due to no Longford IFC competition. In 2008 the Longford SFC winner (Killoe) competed in Leinster Club IFC, and won the Leinster title. There is no record of any Longford participation in 2009. From 2010 to 2014 the Longford IFC winner competed in Leinster Club IFC competition. From 2015 to 2022 the Longford SFC winner competed in Leinster Club IFC while the Longford IFC winner competed in Leinster Club JFC. In 2022 Longford Slashers won the Leinster Club IFC title and went on to win the All-Ireland Club IFC title. In 2023 the Longford SFC ‘B’ winner competed in Leinster Club IFC while the Longford IFC winner competed in Leinster Club JFC. Since 2024 the winner of the Longford IFC title competes in the Leinster Club IFC.

Killoe has played the most games of any Longford club in Leinster Club IFC (10 in total), while Longford Slashers has the next most games played (9 in total) and Clonguish in third position (8 in total).
